Case study: A high-tech company

A crisis, a pivot, and from zero to £700k in three years

A product that wasn't working and a cash crisis that nearly ended everything.

A high-tech company. £0 to £700k in three years.

They came to me with a product that needed rebuilding and a business that had yet to find its footing.

Four people, three developers and a commercial lead. The founder had put in his own money. Nothing was moving.

Phase 1

The pivot

I ran one session with the team. One question: where are you genuinely strong?

The answer was not the app they had been building. It was the underlying capability: high-spec software development, web platforms, systems built to banking-grade standards. We rebuilt the commercial offer around that.

Within 20 days, they had their first client.

Phase 2

Building the business around the founder

As revenue grew, the founder was still behaving like a developer. I helped him step out of Slack project channels, out of daily technical decisions, and into the role the company actually needed.

We structured hiring around him: project managers, marketing. The company started winning larger contracts, including a major enterprise client in financial services.

Phase 3

Cash crisis

A tax bill arrived. Nobody knew they had to pay it. Nobody had visibility on cash.

I went through every bank account, every transaction, line by line. Built a full picture of expenses, subscriptions, and income. Changed supplier payment terms. Cut subscriptions and headcount that were not producing results.

Kept the company open.

Three years. £700k in turnover. A company that nearly didn't make it is still operating today.
